Torrey Pines State Reserve, Cowles Mountain, and numerous coastal trails nearby. Desert and mountains within 1-2 hours.

• Aztec Transit provides campus shuttles. Campus is walkable but hilly. Many students have cars, though new trolley reduces need.
• Good access throughout San Diego region. Parking can be challenging on campus.
• San Diego MTS bus system and trolley (Green Line extension to SDSU opened 2021 - game changer for transportation). Campus is now directly connected to downtown and airport via trolley.

San Diego International Airport (SAN) - approximately 15 minutes/10 miles from campus. Very convenient access.

College Area neighborhood has typical college town feel with affordable restaurants, coffee shops, and student housing. Can be somewhat run-down in areas. Downtown San Diego (15 min) offers urban amenities, Gaslamp Quarter nightlife, cultural attractions. Beach communities provide resort-like atmosphere. Overall San Diego offers major city amenities with laid-back California vibe.

SDSU has the 'Aztec Dance Team' - a competitive Division I dance team that performs at football and basketball games. The team competes nationally and has strong reputation. Tryouts held annually - walk-ons are welcome to audition. Team is highly competitive and requires significant time commitment. Style includes pom, jazz, and hip-hop.

EXCELLENT facilities. Aztec Recreation Center (ARC) is 165,000 sq ft with climbing wall, pools, basketball courts, fitness equipment, group fitness classes. Extensive intramural sports program (30+ sports). Sport clubs available for competitive non-varsity athletes. Aquaplex has Olympic-sized pool. Very active recreation culture with high student participation.

ABOVE AVERAGE. Multiple dining halls and food courts. East Commons and Cuicacalli Dining Hall offer all-you-can-eat options. Aztec Shops operates various retail dining locations. Good variety including healthy options, international cuisine, and chains (Starbucks, Panda Express, Subway). Student reviews generally positive (7/10 average rating).

ATTRACTIVE campus with Spanish Colonial Revival/Mission-style architecture. Red-tiled roofs and cream-colored buildings create cohesive aesthetic. Hepner Hall is iconic centerpiece. Campus is well-maintained with palm trees, landscaping, and open spaces. Aztec Student Union is modern and impressive. Some older buildings need updating. Overall: 7.5/10 for beauty - pleasant but not stunning.

MIXED quality. Newer housing (Chapultepec, Tenochca, Maya/Olmeca apartments) is very nice with suite-style and apartment options. Older residence halls (Zura, Tacuba) are more basic traditional dorms. Housing guaranteed for freshmen only. Most students move off-campus after first year. Campus housing is expensive relative to off-campus options. On-campus housing ranges from traditional doubles to apartment-style.
